Co-op Own Brand PBA
CLIENT:
Marston’s Beer Company
BRIEF:
Concepts and Suite Design for a tertiary Co-op own label PBA brand.
RESPONSE:
Printworks – The concept for this range of Premium Bottled Ales pays homage to Co-op’s history and brand ethos of community, sustainability and social responsibility.
‘The Printworks’ is a Manchester Landmark next to the Co-op Group’s HQ. It was once the largest printing house in Europe and home to a printing press until 1986. It lay derelict until a joint venture by ‘Co-operative Wholesale Society’ and ‘Co-Operative Insurance Society’ saw the site converted, with a strong emphasis on developing cultural and entertainment opportunities to broaden the interest and attraction of the city centre, thereby giving back to the community of Manchester.
With a visual aesthetic owing much to the vernacular of letterpress printing and inspired by the work of Alan Kitching, characterized by its expressive use of wood and metal letterforms, which help to give each label its own ‘personality’ whilst maintaining the feeling of being part of a ‘suite’.
